George Mason University—Document Forensics Laboratory
Since 2002, Gannon Technologies Group has partnered with George Mason University to build a scientifically-based foundation for handwriting examination, called biometric handwriting identification.
Headed by co-directors Donald T. Gantz and John Miller, Professor and Associate Professor, respectively, in the Department of Applied and Engineering Statistics at George Mason, the university’s Document Forensics Laboratory has been collaborating with Gannon and forensic scientists at the FBI in the creation of a software based on the mathematical structure of letters. This software has the ability to match a handwriting sample to the correct person in a database with a high degree of accuracy.
Mark Walch, GTG President, is excited about the relationship with George Mason: “After
reviewing several programs at different institutions, we selected George Mason. We were
attracted to the university because of its exceptional statistics program, the qualifications of its researchers, and their unique ability to solve real-world problems. Our relationship with Dr. Gantz and his colleagues has yielded extraordinary results.”
